FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Why do I have to sign the project sheet?
This confirms that you have read the project sheet and that we both understand what the project entails, who is responsible for what and what is going to be done. If you don't agree with something on the project sheet or think it's incomplete, let us know before you sign it so we can review and make adjustments.

Do I really need to read the project sheet?
YES! See "Why do I have to sign the project sheet?"

What's with the "Legal Stuff" sheet?
It basically outlines what happens if things go really wrong. It's like disaster recovery that protects both the client and the design firm. Problems that arise can typically be worked out with a quick phone call but if the brown stuff hits the fan, this is the emergency backup plan.

Why do you require a down-payment?
If we are to commit time to your project, then we need you to show your commitment to the project with a down-payment and signed project sheets.

Why don't you trust me to pay you at the end of the project instead?
We're just cautious. We've made it a policy to not accept projects without down-payments.

Even people with the best intentions sometimes pay late due to poor bookkeeping skills or get in an unexpected financial bind and have to delay payment. If there were no down-payments, we would probably not be in business any longer because of the financial strain full late payments would create for us. Additionally as a service based business, if you don't pay us, the amount owed is not even deductible on our taxes as it would be with a goods based business - it's just lost time.

I left my checkbook at home/office, can't you just start on my project today anyway?
We accept checks, cash, money orders, cashiers checks, credit cards and Paypal. Sorry, we cannot start on your project until a down-payment is made.

Why do I have to pay in full in advance?
The only time you have to pay in full before the project begins is if the amount is under $100 or if you have paid your remaining balance late too many times in the past. If it's under $100, it's not worth our time to harass you if you pay late which is why we require full payment upfront.

But I've been burned in the past by another designer/firm/business. How do I know you won't just take the money and run?
We've been in business since 2000 with many happy and repeat clients. If you would like a list of current referrals, just let us know. We also have a clean Better Business Bureau record (though not currently a member.) http://www.lexington.bbb.org/commonreport.html?compid=25001737

Ouch - this is a huge project! I have the 50% down-payment but can we break the remaining 50% up into some sort of payment plan?
Probably, just make sure you ask so we can work out the details before we begin the project.

I don't have any money but I really need some design work done! Won't you help me?
If you are a non-profit I recommend trying: http://www.volunteermatch.org/ or http://www.idealist.org/

If you are a small business or start-up you should check with the local colleges to see if you can get students to work on your project for free or for a very small fee.

Will you barter?
I'm sorry but bartering doesn't pay the electric bill (now if you're the electric company or a company that installs solar paneling we might be able to discuss this further.)

Are you currently hiring?
No but we are always on the lookout for freelancers in case we need people with a certain skill set for a particular project. See submission guidelines.

Are you looking for interns?
Yes and no - we will be looking for interns again in the near future but currently don't have a spare computer for you to work on. If you can come with a laptop eager to learn we may be able to work something out. See submission guidelines.

What do I need to send to be considered for freelance work or an intern position? (Submission Guidelines)
